Sign-in and access

The hosting platform manages Sign in with ChatGPT and the plugin connection. It supplies a site-scoped user identifier and may supply verified email and display-name fields. Connected scientific tools and private saved references require the site-scoped identifier. The public website also offers a bounded subset of official-data queries without sign-in, using requests that omit browser credentials. It does not send those identity fields, sign-in cookies or authentication credentials to the scientific data providers.

When you explicitly save an earthquake reference through the connected tools, the application stores selected public earthquake fields and preferred product versions under your site-scoped user identifier. References persist across sessions and are accessible only to that identity. The reference does not store your location, email, name or raw conversation. Saving a reference does not start monitoring. Contact the operator to request deletion of saved references. The application does not persist user profile records. OpenAI/Sites authentication, account records, hosting, security and operational logs are separate from the application. Their handling is governed by the platform's policies, including the OpenAI privacy policy. This notice does not promise a retention period or deletion behavior for platform records.

Information used for requests

The application processes the queries you choose in its website or through its connected tools. Depending on the task, these can include event identifiers, time ranges, magnitude filters, geographic bounds or coordinates, station/channel codes, alert areas, historical tsunami identifiers, mapping activation codes and water-gauge parameters. If you enter coordinates, those coordinates can be sent to the selected scientific provider as part of that query. The app does not request device geolocation automatically.

Requests go to the relevant official provider: USGS, EMSC-CSEM, GEOFON/GFZ, EarthScope, NOAA/NWS and the tsunami warning centers, NOAA NCEI, Copernicus EMS, NASA EONET or USGS WaterData. Requests include only the validated source-specific parameters described in the query appendix, plus ordinary HTTP request information from the hosting service. Providers may log requests under their own policies. The application does not control their retention or logging.

Opening an external source or download link connects your browser directly to that provider. The provider then receives the information normally sent by your browser. Map land, place labels and tectonic linework are bundled with the app; using these map layers does not send your location to a separate map-tile vendor.

Application storage and caching

The application database stores explicitly saved earthquake references as described above. Other tool results are processed and returned to the requesting browser or connected client. Public query responses may use bounded Worker memory and hosting edge caches; private saved references are not exposed through these public routes. The application has no object-storage account or advertising/analytics integration. That does not mean the hosting platform, ChatGPT, your browser or upstream providers keep no records.

The PNG renderer keeps a bounded, per-Worker memory cache of public snapshot images: up to 16 entries and 8 MiB. Entries can be evicted as the cache fills or when the Worker restarts; there is no promised lifetime for this process cache. PNG responses carry an HTTP cache instruction with a one-day maximum age. Browsers, recipients and external sharing services may keep copies according to their own settings and policies. Hosting/request-log retention is not determined by this application.

Snapshot links, downloads and sharing

Card-editor URL fragments contain encoded public event snapshot values. Fragments are processed by the browser and are not part of the normal HTTP request to the page server. The server-readable share-page and PNG URLs instead carry the public snapshot in query parameters; these can appear in browser history and hosting/request logs.

App-generated snapshots include public earthquake information, selected public impact metadata, source identifiers and timestamps. They do not include your profile, email or a private user-location field. A snapshot URL is encoded, not encrypted or cryptographically authenticated. The page and exported image direct readers to verify the official source.

Downloading an image, copying a caption/link or opening the device share sheet is initiated by you. The application does not automatically post to social networks or send messages. If you share a link, file or caption, its recipient and the service you choose receive that content. ChatGPT and other connected clients also handle requests and responses under their own policies.
